On 25 October 2023 a webinar was organised by the European Lawyers Foundation (ELF) in conjunction with the Council of Bars and Law Societies of Europe (CCBE). The webinar under the title “SLAPPS and lawyers. What every EU lawyer needs to know”, attracted over 500 participants from all over Europe. We contributed with an overview of some characteristics of SLAPP cases in Europe, based on the data and studies available on the topic.

After a welcome from the Chair of ELF’s Board of Directors, there was a presentation from the European Commission on the draft anti-SLAPP directive, followed by our presentation highlighting the impact of SLAPPs and some of the SLAPP indicators. The chair of the CCBE’s Access to Justice Committee, spoke about the CCBE’s position on SLAPPs, and there was a final session on the CCBE’s Recommendation on SLAPPs and its impact on lawyers’ ethics.
