Freedom of expression is the oxygen in a democracy, while the right to information guarantees the public to be properly informed about issues that matter for society. Press and media freedom, internet and media regulation shall help to guarantee public debate, diversity, pluralism and transparency in our societies. The freedom of speech however has its limits when content via (social) media and other internet platforms is inciting to hatred, intolerance, discrimination or violence against persons or groups of persons. We focus in particular on the right of access to public documents, the protection of whistle-blowers, investigative journalism and media ethics. We also support anti-SLAPP initiatives and policies (more information under news).
