On 7 and 8 May Flutura Kusari (ECPMF/CASE) and I participated as a speaker at an event on SLAPPs. 7 May was the deadline for the transposition of the EU anti-SLAPP Directive. The EU Commissioner for Democracy, Justice, the Rule of Law and Consumer Protection Michael Mc.Grath held a committed key note speech. He stressed the importance of a solid anti-SLAPP legal framework in each of the EU Member States : Speech by Commissioner McGrath at the High-Level Event on Combatting SLAPPs
An EU website is tracking the transposition of the Directive in the Member States: https://eur-lex.europa.eu/legal-content/EN/NIM/?uri=CELEX:32024L1069. Only 8 countries have reported their (partial) transposition of the EU Directive before the deadline.
More information in the anti-SLAPP Monitor of CASE and ECPMF : SLAPPs in Europe | Tracking Anti-SLAPP Legislation. The Belgian law transposing the EU Directive still needs to be approved by Parliament (www.slapp.be).
