Investigative journalism and SLAPPs

One of the sessions at the annual conference of the Flemish/Netherlands Association of Investigative journalist (VVOJ, Antwerp, 20-21 November 2026) focuses on the practical impact of the recent anti-SLAPP provisions in the Belgian law. Will investigative journalists be better protected against abuse of process, what guarantees or protection does the law offer, what will really be important and where are the gaps or loopholes? In a one hour session/workshop we will introduce the main characteristics of the new anti-SLAPP law, its potential impact and its guarantees, its shortcomings and the challenges for the near future.
