Legal Human Academy wishes you an inspiring, committed and agreable new year. We are looking forward to participate in the JUFREX 2 programme of the Council of Europe/EU (Reinforcing Judicial Expertise on Freedom of Expression and the Media in South-East Europe). We will focus on training activities for the judiciary, regulators and journalists. We also continue working together with the Georgian Democracy Initiative in implementing its project “Protection of Freedom of Expression in the Justice System”. This project aims to develop proposals to eliminate unjustified or disproportionate restrictions on the right to the freedom of expression in Georgia, particularly on defamation of the judiciary. We ended 2019 with a blog on Strasbourg Observers and Inforrm’s (together with Ronan O’Fathaigh) commenting a recent judgment of the European Court of Human Rights about a conviction for incitement to religious hatred. The expectation is that the ECHR, which turns 70 in 2020, will further keep on playing its important role in stimulating and enforcing respect for human rights and the rule of law in Europe.
