At the occassion of the 3th May World Press Freedom Day the European Audiovisual Observatory has launched the online free accessible database VERBO covering three decades of the Strasbourg Court case law on freedom of expression, media and journalists. Freedom of expression in Europe has never been more essential to the protection of our democracies, human rights and respect for the rule of law.
During the last 30 years we have contributed to the publication in IRIS Legal Newsletter of this selection and summaries of judgments and decisions of the European Court of Human Rights. Many thanks to prof. Tarlach Mc Gonagle (Leiden University and IVIR/UvA, Amsterdam University) who acted as supervising editor for all 10 versions of the e-book, and to Amélie Lacourt and the team of Maja Cappello.
VERBO is open to all: lawyers, judges, legislators and policymakers, civil society actors, journalists and other media actors, academics, students, and anyone with an interest in matters related to freedom of expression, media, journalism, and freedom of information in the digital environment.
